Feel the chill in the air? The leaves on the trees are changing color and starting to drop. Autumn is just around the corner. It seems like yesterday we were walking in the sun and swimming outside. We noticed that many of you stayed in town this past Summer. We had an extremely successful SummerFEST event and an amazing number of park shelter reservations. I’m so glad that the Lakewood Parks and Recreation Department could provide you with "staycation" ideas and alternatives.

Recognizing how great it is to play near home, the City of Lakewood and the Clover Park School District partnered this summer to create a neighborhood school park at Lake Louise Elementary School. The updated playground, walking trail and improved access will benefit the students and residents living in this area. The school park is closed during regular school hours so stop by after school or on the weekends and try out the new swings.

The children are heading back to school. It’s time for you to learn some new tricks, too! Look through this brochure and I’m sure you’ll find something that will make you feel successful, smarter, more creative or physically fit. We are planning for 2010 and beyond by adjusting our programs and services to accommodate changes to the local economy and our City budget. Our goal is to create a healthy community through people, parks and programs. We will continue to preserve and maintain our parks and open spaces for you and to develop programs and establish partnerships to ensure that a comprehensive system of resources are available to meet the needs of the Lakewood community.
