Delores Kelso Nelson, writer and instructor brings an imaginative quality to her work with groups of adults. Her inventive, informal approach evokes memories sometimes long forgotten. 

 

Deloresis a graduate of the Evergreen State College. Her post-graduate work includes bibliotherapy, women's studies, and gerontology at the University of Washington's Institute on Aging. She has taught autobiography and family folklore workshops in senior centers and retirement homes for over 25 years. Currently leads a memoir writing group in Olympia.

Hawaiian Lei Making Workshop

TUESDAY, MAY 1, 2012 | 6:30 - 8:30PM

Course Time: 2 hours

 

One of the special ways to share your love and appreciation for someone is to present them with a "Lei of Aloha". This hands-on workshop will introduce you to making a simple crochet lei with eyelash yarn. Other ideas will also be discussed so that you can expand your own imagination and creativity.

 

Materials needed:

  • 2 yards - grosgrain ribbon 
  • Yarn crochet hook - size J or K
  • 2 - kukui nut scissors
  • 2 - skeins of eyelash yarn           

Cost: $20 - Includes instruction and materials listed above to make one crochet lei

Scrapbook Workshops:                             MAY 9 & JUNE 11

Commemorate a special event in your life or preserve your family's memories with a mini scrapbook. Photos can be added later on or you can bring them to class. Books hold about 20 pictures. In this class you will make a mini paper scrapbook.  COST: $30  ~ Time: 6:00 - 8:30PM

How to Draw & Finish Painting in Watercolor - KIDS ONLY

For Ages: 8-13 years

8 Week Series, Every Wednesday, 3:00 - 4:30 PM

Participation Limit: 8

Cost: $20 each class (Materials included)

           $150 for APCC members

 

Course Objectives

 

The students will:

Learn how to sketching from direct observation; diagrammatic detail, contour and detailed drawing.

 

Learn through thumbnail sketching of different compositions, knowledge of the possibilities of the most desired compositions; transfer the drawing to watercolor paper.

 

Learn to mix colors, using only 3 primary colors of Cadmium Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, and Cobalt Blue, to arrive at desired secondary and tertiary colors.

 

Learn to do gradation washes; solid washes, overlapping of colors, and various basic techniques, which will be used in watercolor painting.

 

Learn how to mix colors. Learn about wet-on-wet application, dry brush technique.

 

Learn ability to apply watercolor to the drawing on watercolor paper, using watercolor techniques learned.

 

Define all processes covered, and be able to demonstrate level of achievement. Learn to present and explain about their painting.
