What is GIS?
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a set of hardware, software, and personnel used to manage, share, and utilize geographically referenced data. Some examples of local government data that have a geographic reference are; parcels, roads, service areas, utilities, survey control points, economic data, demographic information, and street addressing. By linking these geographically referenced features with related databases, GIS staff are able to produce quality products displaying analysis of these data sets.
