The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is developing the Lakewood Legacy Plan, a 20-year strategic plan to meet the future park and recreation needs of the community. The city is working very closely with a 17-member Legacy Team
to develop the plan. This diverse team represents the many different needs and interests in our community.
The planning process for the Legacy Plan involves four phases. The initial phase provides an Environmental Scan for preparing the strategic plan. The second phase is the development of the vision, mission, goals and levels of park and recreation services. The third is the preparation of action strategies and a six-year Capital Improvement Program to achieve the mission and goals of the plan. Finally, the last phase comprises the actual production of the Legacy Plan and its adoption.
Over the past few months, the Legacy Team has successfully completed the second phase of plan development. They have updated the core values to guide the Department, recommended new vision and mission statements and identified ten long-range goals and outcomes for the Legacy Plan. They are currently working on the action strategies. You are welcome to review the draft .
Other planning documents completed as of date to support the Legacy Plan development include:
Phase One: Environmental Scan Technical Report
Phase One: Community Needs Assessment
