Yes it was here – if only for a few weeks – we did actually have a summer season! But when the air gets crisp and the leaves start falling from the trees, we know that autumn is just around the corner!

Fall is a great time to go outdoors and enjoy our parks. There is always a lot to do and see at Fort Steilacoom Park. Start at the
playground, take a walk around the lake and then bring a lawn chair and enjoy one of the many cross country events or soccer leagues happening there each day. There are also
playgrounds and walking paths in our neighborhood parks. Check out the map on page five for a park near you!

Our Truck and Tractor Day is a great time for aspiring fire fighters, construction workers and semi-truck drivers to climb on and check out an amazing array of vehicles. Stick around for our Haunted Hayride later that night. A spooky time to play at the park!

We are continuing our work on the Lakewood Legacy Plan. This long term strategic plan will address the park and recreation needs of our community for the next twenty years. Our Vision is “we see Lakewood as a vibrant community where opportunities abound!” We are fortunate to have so many people willing to contribute to our community. We are very thankful to Partners for Parks for the $100,000 donation which helped pay for the new restroom near the playground at Fort Steilacoom Park. We also have new volunteer groups restoring the apple orchard and helping to create a new community garden. You and your family, co-workers or friends can volunteer at our annual Make a Difference Day in October. We appreciate your support!

See you in the parks!
