  • Latino African American Public Advisory Committee (LAAPAC) Event: LAAPAC held its annual "Come Out and Play" sports event at Springbrook Park on August 22nd. Investigator Martin Knott, NPO's Karen Herritt and Charles Porche, and CSO's Mike Miller and Sandi Stauffer participated in the event. They handed out stickers, coloring books, crayons, pencils, bookmarks and toys to the approximately 75 children who attended as well as crime prevention information to the adults. Volunteers from the Crossover Christian Church prepared hundreds of hotdogs and fed many hungry children. Lakewood Law Enforcement Explorers also assisted and were also available throughout the day to help children participate in the many activities including face painting and games.
  • Sex Offender Policy Board (SOPB) committee meets in City Hall: The Sex Offender in the Community committee of the SOPB met in Lakewood on August 27th, with State Senators Mike Carrell and Debbie Regala in attendance. The discussion included an update of the bipartisan workgroup on finding housing for high-risk offenders. LPD Sgt. Thom Stewart led a presentation about sex offender monitoring in Lakewood, with support from Dept of Corrections (DOC) officials, and CSO Kevin Pressel presented an overview of the crime-free housing program. Lakewood's city manager is a member of the Sex Offender Policy Board, representing the Association of Washington Cities.
