One of Lakewood’s newest restaurants, Café Banana opened on September 15, 2011 adjacent to the Great American Casino. This inviting Bistro offers a unique mix of Asian cuisines, prepared with fresh ingredients and secret sauces by world class chef Chatchai Puchacanit. Family friendly, fun and reasonably priced, this is one of Lakewood’s many new treasures.
Owners, Tony and Susan Wen are not new to the restaurant business. Susan has owned nine restaurants in four states. Part of a 35 year history of family Asian restaurants, Susan started her first restaurant in 1995 in New York City, Manhattan. Tony, a veteran restaurant consultant, met Susan in Oregon at one of her restaurants. After marrying the couple decided to move to Washington State to find a bigger market for their new venture. The idea was to take the most popular dishes from a variety of Asian cultures and make them really well.
“Consistency is very important,” commented Tony on the secret to success in the business. First grade materials and the sauce is what make each dish delectable. Susan is also a very fine cook specializing in Chinese cuisine. Some of her specialties are Chinese Beef, Hot & Sour Soup, Cheese Won Ton, Honey BBQ, Chinese Broccoli and Almond Chicken to name a few.
The restaurant hosts weekend parties, various organizational events, offers custom catering, take-out and delivery, and Karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights. Military families take advantage of Café Banana’s 25% discount year around. Happy hour is Monday through Thursday from 4-7 with half-price drinks & $3.95 appetizers.
