McLane Northwest is a Division of McLane Company. McLane Company was founded by the McLane family in 1894 in Cameron, Texas. Since that time, McLane Company has grown from a local merchant to an international distribution and logistics leader. Today, McLane is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. and distributes food and non-food products to more than 50,000 customer’s locations around the world, including:
- Convenience Stores
- Mass Merchandisers
- Quick Service Restaurants
- Drug Stores
- Movie Theaters
Today, McLane is headquartered in Temple, Texas. The company is one of the nation’s largest wholesale distributors and operates 20 grocery divisions, 18 food service distribution centers, and an industrial specific software company. Grocery and foodservice distribution centers provide service to every state and county in the United States and employ more than 13,000 teammates across the nation.
McLane Northwest, located in Lakewood, Washington was the second division established outside the state of Texas. The Lakewood division hired their first teammates in May of 1980, the same month of the famous Mt. St. Helens eruption. Originally, the company serviced Washington, Oregon and Idaho, and dispatched 120 loads per week with a staff of 90 people.
Today, they service customers in five states, having added customers in Montana and Alaska over the years. The Northwest team today has grown to over 300 teammates, and dispatches 160 loads per week, servicing the largest geographic territory of all the McLane divisions.
The Objective of McLane Grocery Distribution is to exceed the expectations of their Customers, Suppliers and Teammates through outstanding execution, responsiveness and clear communication. The company strongly believes that their success is due to core beliefs and values of Honesty, Integrity and High Christian Principles and a constant focus on improvement and “Spoiling the Customer.”
Safety is an important part of McLane’s philosophy, and the company offers several “safety incentives” to their teammates. As the division reaches certain safety milestones, the company offers safety luncheons, as well as, safety drawings for money. It can get very exciting when the division reaches the point when they give away a safety cruise for a teammate and their significant other (yes that is a cruise for two). It’s the company’s way of saying, “Thanks for being safe!”
McLane also supports their community in various charitable events including golf tournaments, “blue jean” Mondays, and fundraisers for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. They regularly donate food to local food banks, and other charitable events like the Lakewood Fallen Officers memorial. Through the years, McLane has participated in the local United Way “Season of Caring”, donated dog food to the local animal shelters, and assisted in the Boy Scout transportation merit badge program.
