Councilmember Mike Brandstetter has served on the City Council in Position 2 since 2010. He also represents the City on the South Sound 911 policy Board and the Tacoma/Pierce County Convention Center Public Facilities district. He represents the Chambers/Clover Creek Watershed on the Pierce County Flood Control Zone District Advisory committee.

Councilmember Brandstetter grew up in Shorewood, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee. He entered the United States Army in 1969 and moved to Lakewood in 1993 when he became the command sergeant major of the 1st Military Police Brigade at Fort Lewis. During his career, his military assignments took him to Korea, Germany, Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Desert Storm, Haiti, Panama and a variety of assignments in the United States.

Councilmember Brandstetter retired from the Army in 1999 and joined Bates Technical College, where he served as the Dean for Engineering, computer Science and Advanced Technologies. Councilmember Brandstetter holds a BS in Business and Management from the University of Maryland and a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University. He and his wife, Hae Yon, have been married for 42 years.
