Lakewood Celebrates Lancers

On Friday, May 15, some 5,000 people stopped by Fort Steilacoom Park for Military Appreciation Day, celebrating the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. The Lancer Brigade is Lakewood's "Community Connector" to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The event - which was produced by the City of Lakewood and the local chapter of the Association of the United States Army - offered activities galore for service members, their families, veterans and the entire community. Those included a car show, vehicle displays, vendor booths, a bouncy house, live music and free pizza. The day also featured a crossfit fitness challenge between the Lancer Brigade, West Pierce Fire & Rescue and the Lakewood Police Department. There was even a special guest appearance by a Seahawk SeaGal. "This is great," Mayor Don Anderson said. "This is a great way to show support for our military." The City has posted photos from the event on its Facebook page .
