Reminder: Gravelly Lake Drive Closure

The City of Lakewood is installing three large, water quality vaults at various locations throughout the City as part of the Outfall Water Quality Vaults Project.

Construction at one location, near Ponce De Leon Creek, will require the closure of Gravelly Lake Drive between Avondale Rd SW and Main St SW. Traffic will be detoured through Lakewood Towne Center during the closure. Details for the closure are as follows:

When
  • Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m. to Monday, May 23 at 6 a.m.
Where
  • Gravelly Lake Drive will be closed/barricaded between Avondale Road SW and Main Stree. SW to all traffic, with the exception of local traffic to select businesses and residences. A detour route (See Map) will be available during closure hours.

Harry Todd Park Waterfront Improvements

The City of Lakewood is developing a master site plan for the waterfront area at Harry Todd Park.

This week, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviewed a draft site plan of the 17-acre park that's intended to produce various upgrades for the public. The City’s main goal is to ensure the waterfront area is ADA compliant and more useable by the public. The City will also assess the playground, restrooms and other site needs.

The Lakewood City Council is scheduled to meet with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board this during its study session 7 p.m., Monday at Lakewood City Hall, 6000 Main St. SW. (See below for full agenda)

May 4 Meeting on Motor Avenue Project

  • WHAT: Meeting on Motor Avenue Project
  • WHEN: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 4
  • WHERE: City Council Chambers, Lakewood City Hall, 6000 Main Street SW

The purpose of this meeting is to provide an update on the project.  All interested citizens are invited to attend and hear a presentation from the project design team.

Project Background: As a means of addressing the priority of urban design the City of Lakewood is embarking on an urban design project to develop a new street corridor plan for Motor Avenue SW between Whitman Avenue SW, and the intersection of Gravelly Lake Drive SW and Bridgeport Way SW.  The project includes the development of a "complete street" plan incorporating urban design concepts to create a vibrant and welcoming public space within the City's central business district.
