Sound Transit's contractor is planning to install a single right lane closure of I-5 Northbound and southbound from Monday, Nov. 14 starting at 8 p.m. until Friday morning at 5 a.m. The lane closures will be located just north of the North Throne Lane interchange (exit 123) to accommodate the directional boring underneath I-5 for the installation of the traffic signal conduits.
What to expect
- This work will be occurring at night
- Traffic signs will be in place 48 hours in advance
- Equipment will sound similar to a truck engine running and vacuuming gravel
- Openings will be covered when work is not occuring
WSDOT has contracted with Sound Transit to deliver the track and signal work, including upgrading crossings, bridge rehabilitation and construction and retaining wall construction.
The Point Defiance Bypass project includes a new Amtrak passenger train station in Tacoma's Freighthouse Square, new and upgraded track between Tacoma and DuPont and five reconstructed at-grade crossings, each with advanced warning and signal systems. When all work is complete in 2017 it will provide more frequent, reliable and faster Amtrak Cascades passenger rail service in Washington.
