Starting Saturday (6/24) and continuing the fourth Saturday of every month, people can come to Fort Steilacoom Park to help restore sections of the 350-acre park.

The first work party will focus on restoration work around the Waughop Lake Trail. Work will include pulling ivy, cutting back blackberry bushes and doing other work.

This will continue through the dry summer months - and is a great opportunity for community service groups and others looking to clock volunteer hours around the city.

Saturday's meet up begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. Meet at the blue barn near the dog park - look for a volunteer named Tari. Please bring your own garden gloves and remember to bring lots of water and sunscreen - it's supposed to be a hot one!

The city will provide vests and first aid kit.

If you're interested please RSVP to  Drop ins are also welcome, but an RSVP helps us know what gear we need to supply and additional materials.

Don't worry if you can't make it Saturday - this is a recurring event, so there are plenty of opportunities to help going forward.

And thank you for helping us keep our city beautiful!
