The Lakewood Police Department will offer a free "Adventure in Boating Education " class this Saturday.
The class is open to anyone, even if an attendee is not a Lakewood resident.
Current state law requires those 59 years of age and younger to have in their possession a boater’s education card if they are operating a powered watercraft of 15 horsepower or greater. The fine amount for not having a card is $87, along with your day on the water being over. The classes will be held at the Lakewood Police Station, 9401 Lakewood Dr. SW, on the following dates:
- Saturday, May 9: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, June 6: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participants should bring their own snacks/beverages – only a ½ hour lunch break will be offered. Registration is done through the City of Lakewood website (https://www.cityoflakewood.us ) through "Program Registration" on the Parks and Recreation page. You can also register by visiting ActiveNet .
After completing the class, participants will be provided their certificate and application for the boater’s education card. A $10.00 fee will have to be paid to Washington State Parks for the actual boater’s education card. The card doesn’t have an expiration date so no future renewal costs.
