Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

Description

The City of Lakewood shall submit at least 45-days before final action on or passage of proposals by the City Council, to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, for review and comment, proposals for imposition of any new tax under RCW 67.28 (hotel/motel tax), or for increases in the rate of a tax imposed, or for the repeal of an exemption from a tax imposed, or for a change in the use of revenue received under Chapter 67.28 RCW. The Advisory Committee shall submit comments on the proposal in a timely manner and shall include an analysis of the extent to which the proposal will accommodate activities for tourists or increase tourism and the extent to which the proposal will affect the long-term stability of the fund created under Section 67.28 of the RCW (Section 4 of Chapter 452, Laws of 1997). as may be referred by the City Council.

Qualifications

Representation of businesses required to collect hotel/motel tax and persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by revenue received by the hotel/motel tax.

Memberships

Minimum of five (5) members

  1. At least two members who are representatives of businesses required to collect tax; and
  2. At least two members who are persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by revenues received, provided that persons who are eligible for appointment under (A) of this subsection are not eligible for appointment under (B) of this subsection, and vice-versa. Organizations representing businesses required to collect hotel/motel tax under Ordinance 133, organizations involving in activities authorized to be funded by revenue received under Ordinance 133 and local agencies involved in tourism promotion may submit recommendations for membership on the Committee. The number of members who are representatives of businesses required to collect tax shall equal the number of members who are involved in activities authorized to be funded by revenue received.
  3. One member shall be an elected official of the City who shall serve as chair of the Committee.
  4. One member may be a nonvoting member who is an elected official of Pierce County.

Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
