Geographic Information Systems

The goal of the City of Lakewood Geographic Information Systems Division is to support the mapping needs of the various city departments.

What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a set of hardware, software, and personnel used to manage, share, and utilize geographically referenced data. Some examples of local government data that have a geographic reference are; parcels, roads, service areas, utilities, survey control points, economic data, demographic information, and street addressing. By linking these geographically referenced features with related databases, GIS staff are able to produce quality mapping products.
