The City of Lakewood worked with the United States Department of Justice to ensure City programs, services and activities are accessible for persons with disabilities. City staff receives specialized training on the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and effective ways to interact and communicate with persons with disabilities.
Policies and procedures are implemented that will aid the City in providing information regarding ADA accessible programs and services and improve the City's ability to receive and act upon requests and concerns regarding accessibility.

City procedures formalize how people may request accessibility accommodations, such as requests regarding the accessibility of sidewalks and curb cuts at roadway intersections. Procedures also identify how requests should be made for interpreters, transcription services, and documents in alternative formats.
