Jury Duty

Potential jurors are randomly selected from voter registration and Department of Licensing lists. To be eligible for jury service a person must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Pierce County and able to communicate in English. Jurors are reimbursed $10 per day and roundtrip mileage.

If you receive a juror summons, you must call in after 1:00 pm the Friday before your selected week. Any request to be excused must be submitted in writing 10-days before the designated call in day. Please note employment and lack of childcare are not sufficient grounds for excusal. Typically, jury duty is for one or two days and all trials are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

The day of your jury service please check in at 8:30 am, unless otherwise instructed. You are free to bring reading material. Electronic devices including cell phones, mp3 players, portable computers or tablets, etc. are not allowed so please leave these items at home. For the safety and security of everyone knitting & crocheting needles are also not permitted.
