Return of Property

The Property Room is open to the public to reclaim their lost, stolen, or legal to possess items after they have been released by the investigating officer/detective or prosecuting attorney.

Property is released by appointment only.

Please allow up to five business days for the Property Room to review and research your request.

Please carefully read and follow the below listed instructions:  

BEFORE YOU VISIT THE PROPERTY ROOM

Please call the Property Room phone number at (253) 830-5000. You need to confirm that the item(s) that you are retrieving have been released by the investigating officer/detective or prosecutor. We will not release anything without proper written authorization. We will ask you for your case number. This number will always begin with the year in which the incident occurred (e.g. 12-XXX-XXXX).

Please be advised that not all property may be released pursuant to Washington State Laws, Federal Laws, or Department Policy and that you may be asked to provide proof of ownership.

ITEMS TO BRING WITH YOU

You must have valid photo identification and your case number.

HAVING ANOTHER PERSON RETRIEVE YOUR PROPERTY

If you are having someone else pick up your property, you can either contact the officer or detective and request that person release the property to your designee or your designee must have a legal notarized statement from you authorizing him/her to pick up your items. Property Room employees may give you further instructions if required.

UNCLAIMED PROPERTY

Failure to remove the property within sixty (60) days may result in its destruction, sale at auction, or retention as Department property, depending on the item and circumstances.
