At the regular City Council meeting on January 21, the Lakewood City Council proclaimed the week of February 2 – 8, 2014 as Toastmasters International Week.
Councilmember John Simpson presented the proclamation to Lakewood Toastmaster member and Area Governor Julie Skaw (Area 13; District 32).
Toastmasters International has more than 12,500 clubs in 113 countries worldwide; with nearly 5,000 members in the state of Washington. The City encourages all citizens and civic organizations to recognize the many accomplishments and opportunities in communication and public speaking Toastmasters International provides.
Lakewood Toastmasters was founded at the City of Lakewood in 2008 for City employee development. The club currently has 29 members and is open to the general public.
Lakewood Toastmasters is hosting an open house on Tuesday, February 4 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Food will be provided and a regular meeting will be conducted. Lieutenant Governor Marketing William Michael Paul for District 32 will be the guest speaker.
