Lakewood Police Show Seahawks Spirit, Gratitude

Lakewood Police showed its brand of Seattle Seahawks spirit Thursday, and it meant much more than simply hoping the team tops the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XVLIII.

Almost 50 blue-and-green-clad members of the department gathered on their front doorstep to show their support for the Hawks, who play Sunday in New Jersey for the Lombardi Trophy.

As Chief Bret Farrar explained, the outpouring of 12th Man spirit was as much gratitude as it was support. When four of Lakewood's officers were murdered in November 2009, the Seahawks organization went out of its way to welcome the department, he said.

The team brought in and honored the fallen officers' families and members of the department during a game, Farrar said.

"We thought, in return for the kindness they showed us, we would show, as a department, our support for the Seattle Seahawks," Farrar said.

Great stuff. Go Hawks.
