Lakewood Youth Council Coordinates Events for Make a Difference Day

Come join your neighbors, community partners and the Lakewood Youth Council in celebrating Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 23rd. This is the 8th year that the Youth Council has coordinated the events for the city and has been selected by USA WEEKEND Magazine, HandsOn Network and Cisco to receive a Cisco Flip Video camera to record our activities. Our video will be uploaded to http://www.youtube.com/makeadifferenceday .

Our day will begin with a Kick-Off event featuring a food drive for the Emergency Food Network at City Hall in Council Chambers with refreshments at 8:00 am. The program will begin at 8:30 am and we will disburse to the project sites by 8:50 am. All projects are scheduled to start at 9:00 am. The project sites include:

Fort Steilacoom Park:

            Grave Marker installations in the cemetery

            Invasive plant removal and litter clean-up

Flett Creek Blueberry Farm:

            Clean the trail

            Prune plants

            Spread wood chips

Caring for Kids:

            Organize donated clothing in warehouse

Pumpkin Decorating:

            Pumpkin painting & decorating at the Fire Department pumpkin patch

Springbrook Park

            Park beautification – daffodil & tulip bulbs
