Lakewood's City Manager Installed on ICMA National Board as West Coast Regional Vice President

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA - Andrew E. Neiditz, City Manager, Lakewood, Washington, was installed today as West Coast Regional Vice President of ICMA, the International City/County Management Association, during the closing general session of the organization's 96th Annual Conference in San José, California . Mr. Neiditz, who was elected by the ICMA membership in February 2010, will serve a three-year term as West Coast Regional Vice President.

ICMA's mission is to create excellence in local governance by promoting professional management worldwide and increasing the proficiency of appointed chief administrative officers, assistant administrators, and other employees who serve local governments and regional entities around the world. The organization's nearly 9,000 members in 36 countries also include educators, students, and other local government employees.

"The men and women who serve on the ICMA Executive Board are outstanding leaders, not only in their own communities but also in the field of professional local government management," says ICMA Executive Director Robert J. O'Neill. "These individuals are committed to moving our organization and our profession forward, and we appreciate the time, energy, enthusiasm, and thoughtfulness they each bring to ICMA."

ICMA's 20-member Executive Board acts in the capacity of directors, overseeing the organization's financial, member-related, and programmatic affairs and selecting the board president. The board also enforces the organization's Code of Ethics, which governs the professional and personal conduct of the membership. ICMA Executive Board members attend four board meetings annually.

As one of 17 vice presidents, three of whom are elected from the organization's West Coast Region, Mr. Neiditz will represent ICMA to state associations of local government management and maintain relationships among other affiliated organizations. The West Coast Region is one of five ICMA regions in the United States; two vice presidents are also elected from countries outside the U.S.

Mr. Neiditz's local government career began in 1980 in Pierce County, Washington, where he served as project administrator (1980-1984); deputy county executive (1984-93); and ultimately executive director of public safety (1993-96). Following his stint with Pierce County, Mr. Neiditz's career took him to Lakewood, Washington, where he accepted the position of deputy city manager, a post he held for three years from 1996 to 1999. He left Lakewood in 2000 to take the position of city administrator of Somner, Washington, which he held until 2005. Mr. Neiditz returned to Lakewood to accept the position of city manager in 2005.

Mr. Neiditz has been member of ICMA since 1988. Hereceived an ICMA service award in 2009 in recognition of his 25 years of service to local government. He has also been an active member of the Washington City/County Management Association, serving as vice president (2006-07); president (2007-08); and past president (2008-2009).

Mr. Neiditz earned designation in 2008 as a Credentialed Manager though ICMA's Voluntary Credentialing Program, which defines and recognizes members who are qualified by a combination of education and experience, adherence to high standards of integrity, and an assessed commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Ms. Neiditz earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Stockton State College in New Jersey in 1975; and a Masters of Science from the University of Oregon in 1977.
