Lakewood’s SummerFEST a Major Success

The City of Lakewood and its Parks, Recreation, and Community Services department launched the 8th Annual SummerFEST at Fort Steilacoom Park Saturday, June 25th – Sunday, June 26th.

Approximately 13,000 people participated in the festivities at Fort Steilacoom Park on Saturday, June 26th. Saturday was SummerFEST’s main event and included live entertainment on two stages, a car show and motorcycle rally, KIDZ Zone, petting zoo, Army Strong Fitness Expo which had special appearances by professional sport teams, a public market with over 120 vendors, community displays by West Pierce County Fire & Rescue, Lakewood Police Department, Pierce County Mobile Command Unit and Pierce County Library Systems, and a showing of the movie How to Train Your Dragon, presented by Comcast.

The event was wrapped up on Sunday, June 26th with a free 5k Fun Run put on by Army Strong and the final of a 3-day soccer tournament. Over 70 people participated in the 5K and there were over 160 participants in the soccer tournament.

The beautiful weather and hard work from City of Lakewood employees and community partners made SummerFEST 2011 a fabulous event and everyone involved looks forward to next year.
