4th Stryker Brigade "Raiders" Return

Shortly after midnight on August 25, 2010, 300 soldiers from Lakewood's adopted brigade, the 4th Stryker Brigade "Raiders" touched down on McChord Field after a year in Iraq. By early September, all 4,200 soldiers from the brigade will be back at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The following photos were taken during and after a short ceremony at 2:30am commemorating this homecoming at the Soldiers Fieldhouse at JBLM. The Raiders have received a great deal of national publicity over the last week in light of their successful mission which has facilitated their historical redeployment from Iraq. The Raiders are the last combat brigade to leave Iraq; combat operations began in 2003. The media were allowed access to this event since the brigade commander and command sergeant major (Colonel John Norris and Command Sergeant Major Jeffrey Huggins) were part of this flight increment.
