Capitalizing on the momentum inspired by a private planning initiative focused on Tillicum in 2007, the Lakewood City Council ordered the creation of a City plan for the area. Numerous plans relating to Tillicum dating back 30 years were reviewed in the plan’s development, which goes on to examine where the neighborhood’s greatest needs lie and suggests targeted public and private actions to build upon community assets – particuarly the personal capacities of people; improve infrastructure, including transportation; reduce crime and blight; and redefine commercial and housing areas. Once refined and adopted, the plan will be merged into the City’s comprehensive plan and will direct future zoning and public investment in Tillicum.
Environmental review has been completed and is a part of the plan (see Appendix D) so separate environmental documentation has not been posted on the Web site.
The Lakewood City Council received an initial presentation on Monday, April 27, 2009, to be followed by Planning Advisory Board review on May 6. Other City boards and commissions may also review and comment upon the draft. The City plans to hold one or more public forums in the Tillicum neighborhood as well. Formal public hearings and comment deadlines will be set in the coming weeks. For more information, contact Senior Planner Deborah Johnson at (253) 512-2261 or e-mail email@example.com.
