NEW CANDLEWOOD SUITES HOTEL TO SERVE GROWING
BUSINESS AND MILITARY COMMUNITIES IN LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON
LAKEWOOD, Wash. (October 26, 2009) -To better serve the growing number of local businesses, military personnel and military contractors, the south Puget Sound city of Lakewood will soon be the home to a new hotel catering specifically to business and military travelers. A new 83-unit Candlewood Suites, which breaks ground this week, is slated for completion in September 2010.
"Candlewood Suites is designed for business travelers who are seeking extended-stay accommodations," said Anne Oh, spokesperson for Sunnyside Hospitality LLC, the company that owns the new Lakewood franchise. "With the city's emphasis on business growth and its proximity to three military bases, Lakewood is the ideal location for this type of hotel."
Candlewood Suites will be located at 108th Street Southwest and Pacific Highway, an area of Lakewood that has gone through significant changes over the past several years. To date, the city has invested more than $18 million to redevelop two-and-a-half miles of the Pacific Highway corridor resulting in property and roadway improvements making the area "ready to go" for new businesses. In addition to the new hotel, Lakewood Ford, LaQuinta Inn & Suites and Sound Transit have all built new facilities along Pacific Highway.
"Because of its proximately to Interstate 5, State Route 512, and Highway 99, we have had a significant amount of interest from various businesses that need to locate near major traffic arteries," said Lakewood Economic Development Manager Ellie Chambers-Grady. "Plus, the nearby military bases and Madigan Army Hospital provide a huge customer base for retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues."
Lakewood is the host community to McChord Air Force Base, Camp Murray and Fort Lewis, the number-one requested military base in the country with a population of 40,000 soldiers and civilian workers.
Candlewood Suites is a part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, an international company that operates seven hotel brands: InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites. The Lakewood location will have 83 units that include such amenities as: fully equipped in-suite kitchens with appliances; large workspaces; free high-speed internet access; and an on-site gym, guest laundry, outdoor grills and lending library. Guests will be able to select from three basic room styles: single studio suites, double studio suites, and one-bedroom suites.
