Lakewood "Welcomes Home" Vietnam veterans

At the April 5th City Council meeting, Mayor Richardson and Councilmembers Moss, Brandstetter, and Whalen pose with area Vietnam War veterans. The Council proclaimed April as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Month." April marked the 35th Anniversary of when the last American servicemembers left Vietnam. The City wanted to thank these veterans for their service and sacrifices; Mayor Richardson remarked, "We've done a good job welcoming our military home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Many Americans recognize that those who served in Vietnam never received that same recognition or gratitude. Most people came home from that war changed but still committed to raising families, serving their communities, and moving the nation forward. We have the best military in the world today because of our Vietnam veterans."
