Nice Weather Means Boater Safety

It’s getting closer to summer, and that means folks are thinking about breaking out their personal boats and watercraft.

The City of Lakewood would like to advise all boat owners to take the time now to service their boats before heading onto the water. The Lakewood Marine Service Unit gets an increased number of recreational boaters who need assistance because their crafts haven’t been serviced properly, condensation from fuel and water, and other mechanical and electrical issues.

Please take the opportunity to inspect all of the required boating safety equipment. All of the equipment must be onboard, serviceable and readily available for use.

Anyone 59 years old or younger must have a boater’s education card to operate a boat with a motor greater than 15 hp. You must have the card in your possession when operating the boat. Those who need a boater’s education card can complete an online course or attend a class.  A list of area classes can be found by checking out the Washington State Parks website here .
