Truck and Tractor Day 2014 on YouTube

The City of Lakewood has posted a video of its Truck and Tractor 2014 celebration on its YouTube page .

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department held the always-popular event at Fort Steilacoom Park. As its name implies, there were trucks. There were tractors. There were also be plenty of other reasons Truck and Tractor Day was a great experience for the whole the family. West Pierce Fire Dept. Fall Safety Day 2014

Mark your calendars for this Saturday, Oct. 25, when West Pierce Fire & Rescue will hold its annual Fire Dept. Fall Safety Day 2014.The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Fire Station 21, 5000 Steilacoom Blvd SW.

The event will include:

Lakewood Police Department Responds To Suicidal Man

At approximately 7:20 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, Lakewood Police Department received a call for a suicidal male at the Morningtree Park Apartments located at 8101 83rd Ave. SW.

The reporting party said that the male was going to get a gun and was suicidal. Several officers responded to the scene and didn’t immediately find the subject in the area. At 7:35 p.m., one officer pulled into the apartment complex to wait for other officers and was confronted by the subject in the parking lot. The officer put out on the radio that the subject had a gun and shots were fired. Multiple officers responded and the subject was taken into custody. A handgun was discovered next to the suspect.

The subject suffered at least one gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. The officer who fired his weapon is a 41-year-old male with 13.5 years of law enforcement experience and came to LPD in September 2004.

I-5 Lane, Ramp Closures in Lakewood Over Next Week

Weather permitting, drivers using Interstate 5 in Pierce and Thurston counties will encounter numerous lane and ramp closures as crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation continue efforts to finish a paving improvement project.

In the event of inclement weather, work plans could be rescheduled to a later date.

Thurston County

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 19, Tumwater Boulevard on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close until 5 a.m. the following morning so crews can apply paint striping and pavement markings.

On Monday, Oct. 20 and Tuesday, Oct. 21, southbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane starting at 7 p.m. between State Capitol/City Center exit and Tumwater Boulevard. Lanes will re-open by 5 a.m. each following morning.

Motorists should also expect short-term closures of the southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps between State Capitol/City Center exit at milepost 106 and Tumwater Boulevard at milepost 101.2 during the same overnight hours Oct. 20-21.

Pierce County

Southbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane between Gravelly Lake Drive and Mounts Road during overnight hours beginning Wednesday, Oct. 22 through Saturday, Oct. 25. Lanes will begin to close at 7 p.m. and will reopen by 5 a.m. each following morning.

During the same time-frame, drivers will encounter short-duration on-and off-ramp closures on southbound I-5 between the overnight hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. at the following locations:

  • Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest
  • Thorne Lane
  • Berkeley Street Southwest
  • Joint Base Lewis-McChord Main Gate
  • Steilacoom-DuPont Road
  • Center Drive

The work is related to the I-5 Vicinity Tumwater Boulevard to Gravelly Lake Drive – Paving project.

More I-5 Night Construction in Lakewood

Drivers using Interstate 5 in Pierce County will encounter numerous lane and ramp closures as crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation continue efforts related to two highway improvement projects.

Activities are subject to good weather conditions. Work plans could be rescheduled to a later date.

Northbound I-5

  • 10 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, crews will reduced northbound I-5 near Mounts Road weigh station to one lane. All lanes will reopen at 4 a.m. each following day.
  • 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, crews will reduce northbound I-5 to one lane near Bridgeport Way to one lane. All lanes will reopen at 4 a.m. the next day.

Southbound I-5

  • At 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 14-18, drivers will encounter single lane closures followed by a second lane closure at 10 p.m. on southbound I-5 from Lakewood to Mounts Road. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • 12:01 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, crews will reduce southbound I-5 to one lane near Bridgeport Way. All lanes will reopen at 4 a.m.
  • 11 p.m. Friday, Oct 17, drivers will see double lane closures of southbound I-5 near Bridgeport Way. All lanes reopen at 6 a.m. the following day.

In addition, drivers during night hours from Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 14-18 will encounter short-duration on-and off-ramp closures on southbound I-5 at the following locations:

  • Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest
  • Thorne Lane
  • Berkeley Street Southwest
  • Joint Base Lewis-McChord Main Gate
  • Steilacoom-DuPont Road
  • Center Drive
