  • City Manager Speaks at Northwest Regional Managers Conference: The city manager attended the NW Regional Managers Conference in Hood River, Oregon, April 5-6 with managers from cities in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. He presented on ethics, providing an overview of the ICMA Code of Ethics and the Committee on Professional Conduct on which he serves. He also participated in the first west coast Leadership Summit on April 6 with the officers from California, Washington and Oregon city manager associations.
  • City Hosts Economic Development Practitioners Meeting: Professionals from around the South Sound gathered in Lakewood this week to discuss economic development issues in their various organizations. The focus of the meeting was on regional and community airports as an economic development and tourism tool. This quarterly business gathering promotes collaboration in the region.
  • City Council and Staff Tour Cascade Sonoco: City Council and staff toured the Cascade Sonoco facility located in the Lakewood Industrial Park. Cascade Sonoco is a manufacturing company that makes roll wrap for paper products. This is part of the Economic Development Department’s initiative reach out to local businesses.
