- Lakewood Relay for Life: Dozens of city staff members, their families and supporters will participate in the American Cancer Society’s 18-hour Relay for Life on June 1st and 2nd. The walk will begin at 6:00 pm Friday at Clover Park High School and there will be entertainment and concessions. The City’s relay team is dubbed “Team Emmett” in honor of Emmett Moore a past community development department employee.
- Special Olympics Torch Run: The 2012 Special Olympic Law Enforcement Torch Run will be held on Friday June 1st. LPD will be picking up our torch from the Military at Ft. Lewis North Gate and running it to the Lakewood Police Station. This will occur some time around 2:00 PM -3:00 PM. The final leg of the run starts at the Station and ends at McChord AFB. About 100 runners will participate in this last leg.
- Recent PSRC Action: This week the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) Executive Board certified Lakewood’s Comprehensive Plan update, including amendments through 2010. The certification action recognizes that the plan conforms to state requirements for transportation planning in the Growth Management Act and is consistent with the Multicounty Planning Policies and the regional transportation plan. Certification is an important element of the transportation grant process.
