  • Announcements:
    • Public invited to City Manager Candidate Reception on June 17: The City will host a reception for Lakewood city manager candidates Monday, June 17 from 6-8pm at the McGavick Conference Center at Clover Park Technical College. The City encourages the public to attend and meet the candidates. A summary of the applicants and their qualifications can be found here: /events/details/165-meet-and-greet-city-manager-candidates .
    • Assistant City Manager Halladay Departing for Pierce College: Today (June 14) was the last day of service for Assistant City Manager Choi Halladay. He has overseen the City’s Finance and Administration operations since May 2007. Mr. Halladay will serve as the next vice president for administrative services at Pierce College effective Monday, June 17.
    • Donations for Single Soldiers Returning from Afghanistan: The City of Lakewood continues to support efforts to provide toiletries and snack foods for 4-2 Stryker Brigade single soldiers returning from Afghanistan. Donations can be dropped off at the third floor of City Hall or the LPD lobby through the end of June.     • Lakewood Senior Center hosts Open House: The Lakewood Senior Activity Center hosted its 7th Annual Open House on Friday, June 6th. There were 40 vendors and over 200 attendees walked the red carpet to see what programs the center has to offer and to learn about the many different community resources available for older adults. The event featured a James Bond theme. Volunteers, attendees and vendors dressed like characters from the Bond films. The “fun Singers” entertained the audience and volunteers served refreshments “shaken, not stirred”.
    • Economic Development Manager attends International Economic Development Council Conference: Economic Development Manager Ellie Chambers-Grady attended the International Economic Development Council Conference on Redevelopment and Reuse this week. The conference featured best practices and new approaches to placemaking, redevelopment and reuse. Sessions included topics such as engaging the community with funding models in which government, foundations and the private sector partner on economic development and community development projects. Ms. Chambers-Grady also graded exams and participated in oral board panels in support of professional certification efforts.
