February 18, 2011
To: Mayor and Members of the City Council
From: Andrew Neiditz, City Manager

  • Coffee with the Mayor: During last week's Coffee with the Mayor, Economic Development Director Ellie Chambers-Grady and Principal Planner Dan Catron provided an overview of the Community Development Department's "dashboard" performance measurement system implemented last year. Measures include such things as permit turnaround times, numbers of permits issued by type, and the valuation of improvements under construction permits.
  • Lakewood Senior Center celebrates special birthday: The Lakewood Senior Activity Center had the honor of celebrating Elizabeth Poinsett's 100th birthday. She officially attained the rank of centurion February 17th. She has participated in the oil painting class at the Center for many years and also tutored kids in reading at school, only retiring from helping the kids last June. Elizabeth is quite famous around Lakewood. Mann Middle School is named after Iva Alice Mann, Elizabeth's mother. Elizabeth is very active and still walks two or three times per week. She says her happy childhood and marriage, tutoring, continuing to learn new things, and meeting new friends are the key to longevity!
