May 12, 2006

To:          Mayor and Members of the Council

From:    Andrew Neiditz, City Manager

  • Alice Bush is elected to state-wide leadership post: City Clerk/General Services Director Alice Bush was elected as the next president of the Washington Municipal Clerks Association at their recent annual meeting.  WCMA is a statewide organization with over 350 municipal clerks and is dedicated to promoting professional development in local government in Washington State.
  • Sewer extension project to Tillicum/American Lake Gardens: The City has directed our consultant to proceed with ground survey and geotechnical work associated with the sewer project. We will be notifying by mail all 256 fronting property owners along the preferred sewer alignment, so they won’t be surprised by seeing survey crews or a drilling rig in their area.
  • Movie Theatre crime prevention training program: Lakewood Police Officer Austin Lee trained over 40 general managers and senior assistant managers of area theatres regarding crime prevention issues at movie theatres, at a seminar conducted at their annual general managers’ forum in Bellevue.  LPD was asked to provide the training because we have maintained a strong partnership with Regal Cinemas in Lakewood. This 90 minute training covered CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design), identifying and dealing with people with problems, and reacting to exigent circumstances.
